Derek Perdomo

Derek Perdomo

Biography

Derek Perdomo is currently pursuing his Master of
Science degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering
at the University of Florida. He works in the Smart
Systems Robotics Lab at the University of Florida,
where he is focused on enhancing 3D pose estimation
by utilizing Extended Leading Fields. After this
semester, Derek will begin a new chapter in his career
as a Level 2 Software Engineer at Lockheed Martin in
Marietta, Georgia, where he will write software and
tests for display integration on the C-130J aircraft.

Derek’s educational journey began when he earned his
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Engineering at the
University of Florida this past spring. He took
advantage of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering’s combined degree program to
pursue his graduate studies in Electrical and Computer Engineering. Moreover, Derek continues to
participate in engineering organizations on campus, such as the Society of Hispanic Professional
Engineers (SHPE).

In the Smart Systems Robotics Lab, Derek is working on creating an occlusion-resilient approach to 3D
pose estimation utilizing Extended Leading Fields, ROS, and Python. This enhanced estimation model
will allow robotic arms to be further aware of their surroundings, including humans, tools, and other
robotic arms. This research will have significant implications in the field of robotics, particularly in the
areas of manufacturing, assembly, and human-robot collaboration.
